no big bend wall
who we are
Conserve Big Bend is a Texas nonprofit dedicated to protecting the landscape, cultural heritage, and communities for the greater Big Bend region. No Big Bend Wall (NBBW) is our principal campaign focused on public education, transparency in federal decision-making, cultural and environmental resource protection, landowner rights, and due process in response to the proposed wall in Big Bend.
Conserve Big Bend works directly with and represents affected landowners through its Landowner Coalition.
We are a fast-growing, advocacy-focused group with a diverse range of stakeholders including landowners, conservationists, tour guides and river outfitters, archaeologists, artists, park enthusiasts, policy experts, and more.
our mission
The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) is currently working to fast-track border wall construction across Texas’ Big Bend region, including segments affecting Big Bend National Park and Big Bend Ranch State Park. Remote and rugged, the region has historically limited crossings. A permanent barrier would industrialize public lands, harm river-based tourism and local livelihoods, reduce property values, destroy wildlife corridors and fragile arid and riparian habitats, diminish our dark skies, and damage irreplaceable archaeological sites along the Rio Grande corridor. Texans deserve border security strategies that fit the landscape and the data. A steel wall here imposes permanent costs on communities, wildlife, and taxpayers without clear security justification.
our commitment
we are committed to protecting the following:
172+ miles of public Rio Grande river access through Big Bend National Park, Big Bend Ranch State Park, Black Gap WMA, AND Seminole Canyon State Park
Wildlife corridors for black bear, mountain lion, and migratory species
Uninterrupted canyon views along the Rio Grande corridor
Sensitive desert river habitat
Pristine hiking, camping, and paddling locations
Private and public lands from fence-induced flooding
Businesses dependent on ecotourism
Indigenous heritage sites
Archaeological, geological, AND ecological research sites
Internationally recognized dark skies
The sense of solitude and remoteness that defines this landscape
WHERE YOUR DONATION GOES
Every gift to No Big Bend Wall helps protect the Big Bend region and the Rio Grande from border infrastructure that would harm the river, wildlife, and communities we love. Donations support community organizing and outreach, public education and events, advocacy with lawmakers and agencies, and the day-to-day costs of keeping a grassroots campaign running. No Big Bend Wall is fiscally sponsored by the El Paso Community Foundation, so your gift is tax-deductible.
